DuPont™ Rynite® PET Reduces Cost and Weight of Compact, Ultra Low Noise Motor

Description
A new form of electronically commutated, external rotor motor with patented technology to adapt to different appliances relies on DuPont Rynite® PET and Zytel® nylon resins. The RF66 is a variable speed motor with a shaft power rating of up to 50W (1/16 hp).

Benefits
Reduced product cost - Reduced part count, lower part cost and simplified assembly with snap-fit components all help to reduce the total product cost.

Lower capital cost - Fewer components, ease of moulding plastic and elimination of machining operations reduce the cost of tooling.

Noise and vibration dampening - The damping properties of Rynite® PET help to reduce noise and vibration of the motor to best-in-class levels. It is five times quieter than a typical PSC motor in the same fan assembly - only 29.2 dB at 100 Hz. This makes it ideal for air moving appliances that operate near people.

Design flexibility and integration - Using injection moulding improves design flexibility and facilitates integration of motor and appliance , so that often "no space" need be dedicated specifically to the motor.

Lighter weight - The weight of the motor using DuPont Engineering Polymers is typically one third to a half the weight of a conventional induction motor made of metal.

Materials Used
Rynite® was chosen over glass reinforced PBT because of its higher service temperature capabilities. It maintains its longterm properties at elevated temperatures. The UL approval process was assisted by DuPont technical support and expertise. Included in this is the use of DuPont's pre-approved Electrical Insulation Systems. Rynite® PET was also chosen for its mechanical properties such as dimensional stability, strength and stiffness.

Zytel® was selected for the enclosure component due to its moulding performance and flame retarding properties.
