EIS Use, Automated Coil Production Pay Off in Contactor Coil
Description
An electrical contactor for controlling power in industrial equipment has a coil assembly having a multi-functional bobbin and cover injection molded from DuPont Rynite® brand PET thermoplastic polyester resin.
Benefits
Global acceptance. By using a pre-approved DuPont UL® EIS (Electrical Insulation System) including Rynite® PET, Cutler-Hammer saved time and costs for testing. The contactor meets the requirements of UL 508, CSA 22.2, IEC 947-4-1 and ARI 780, and earned a UL Class F (155°C) rating, according to Cutler-Hammer.
Faster manufacture. The bobbin and cover have several integral features for fast, automated assembly. The bobbin has integral wire guides that aid in automated winding, molded-in recesses for post-inserted terminals and mating features that assure correct assembly with the cover. The cover has molded-in terminal supports and retains the bobbin with snap-fit features for assembly without fasteners.
Durability. The bobbin withstands the stresses of automated coil winding and termination, and it stands up to a maximum operating temperature of 130°C. The units satisfy Cutler-Hammer's requirement for 4 million contactor operations at 80°C.
Materials Used
Rynite® PET meets requirements for strength, toughness, temperature resistance and, as part of a pre-approved EIS, compliance with global electrical requirements.
